Learning Disability

At AMG, we take a personalised approach to support people with learning disabilities, with the aim of empowering the individual. We recognise complex needs and adapt packages of care based on individual choice to promote independence.

During our first visit, we will undertake a detailed and holistic assessment of the client’s needs and discuss service user expectations and what AMG can provide for the individual. We aim to work closely with the client, families, carers and other services to provide coordinated support.

Following the initial visit, we then produce a comprehensive care plan which explains the care that will be provided for the client. The client and family will have the opportunity to contribute to this planning process to ensure that these plans meet service user expectations.

Care is taken to select the most appropriate support workers for the client, taking into consideration their choices and care needs.

Positive Behaviour Support

Challenging behaviour is often the product of a person’s personal, environmental and social factors. AMG strive to understand the needs of the person and how to effectively and safely meet their needs to reduce the likelihood of challenging behaviour.

AMG’s learning disability service is led by a registered nurse in learning disabilities who is a specialist in challenging behaviour. AMG recognise the importance of safety for our clients and care workers, therefore are proud to offer training and support in Maybo. Maybo are the leaders in conflict management and have numerous accreditations including British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) and International Standards Organisation (ISO).

Training is offered on a bespoke basis to suit the needs of the client. The emphasis throughout the training is for incident prevention in the first instance and conflict resolution to influence a positive outcome in a difficult situation. We do offer training up to physical intervention level, however re-enforce that this is always a last resort.

All training is offered by AMG’s in-house team so that we can effectively assess and monitor effectiveness and quality, ensuring that all clients receive a quality service. Our training team is made up of multi-disciplinary professionals, including nurses and specialist trainers.
